19th C. Plains Effigy Knife

Plains Indain

19th century | Steel, Antler | Item 2268

This Plains Indian knife appears to show a buffalo in profile. The head can be seen with remnants of ears on the top, and a beard at the bottom. The carved antler bone is riveted to the steel blade at two points. This knife shows much use over a long period of time. There is a ridge carved out of the antler towards the blade that would allow the user a powerful gripping or halting point if using strong force to cut or fillet. This knife comes with the stand.

Dimensions 8 3/4" long, 4 1/2" for the handle
Condition Fair with heavy blade use and wearing away of the antler handle
