A Micaceous Picuris Cooking Jar 19th C.

Item: 1286

Origin: Picuris
Date: Late 19th Century

Media: Micaceous clay

Dimensions:  10″ tall, 10″ diameter

Description: This wonderful jar shows good use from cooking, which is what the micaceous wares were so good at with the natural mica plentiful in the clay they dug up for their pottery.  The shape of this jar is lovely, with a strong neck and then a substantial flare out for the crenulated rim. The surface shows much wear from use.

Condition:  Condition is very good with surface wear expected for its age.  The rim has several small chips to it. I have found no cracks, breaks or evidence of restoration.

Price: 1500
