A Pair of Vintage Steiff Stuffed Lions
Steiff, Germany
Circa 1900 | Wool
Like the Velveteen Rabbit, both these lions have been loved enough to have much of the mane fur rubbed off. Outside of that, they are in reasonable condition. It’s interesting to note that on the larger lion the mane is mostly worn off on its left side. On the smaller lion the mane is worn down more on its right side. I imagine that this is a result of how they were carried around and held, perhaps tight up against the side or chest of the child. The smaller lion still has his tail and both ears as well as its two toned, glass eyes. The larger lion is missing its tail and ears but has its single tone brown glass (?) eyes. They make a wonderful pair, complimenting each other in form, materials and patina/use.
