Acoma Canteen with Mimbres Desgins, Circa 1915

Acoma Pueblo

Circa 1915 | Clay | Item 2237

This stunning canteen is a call back to the prehistoric Mimbres designs with the black on white swirls and stepping. The Acoma people are likely the descendants of the Mimbres group, so these designs are a continuation of a very old tradition. Two lug handles line up with the spout. Each lug has three dots on it in red/brown slip. The base has a small area with a flattened bottom so it sits steady. The base is the red/brown slip topped off with a pair boundary lines. The condition is excellent with no breaks, cracks or restoration.

Dimensions 6 3/4" tall, 7" wide at the lugs, 8" long
Condition Excellent with some surface wear.
