An Early Navajo Banded Blanket
Item: 814
Origin: Navajo
Date: circa 1850
Media: Wool
Dimensions: 65″ x 45.5″
Description: This wonderful and early blanket is in unrestored condition with the original light blue selvage. It’s rare for such an early, common man/woman’s blanket to have lasted this long in such great condition. The simple, banded pattern consists of groupings of 4 bands with each band two brown colors centered with indigo blue. There are 7 of these band groups all on a butter-colored white field. I encourage you to read a blog that I wrote entirely on this blanket, as it will give you a very through explanation: https://jamescomptongallery.com/of-banded-blankets-and-finding-god/
