An Early Navajo Ketoh or Bow Guard with Four Turquoise Stones

Navajo

Circa 1920 | Silver, Turquoise, Commercial Hide | Item 2541

This is an exceptional Navajo Ketoh with early age. Its petite size is particularly charming. It is cast silver and includes five, green, turquoise stones. The largest stone is in the center and is oblong in shape. Similar to item #2540, there are 6 silver legs, or leaves, emanating from the center. There are two sets on each side that resolve at the corners with small, tooth bevelled stones. These thinner leaves have stamping on the top portion near the center. The large leaves, one to the top and the other to the bottom, are wider and stamped with a leaf pattern. The silver portion is attached to the commercial hide with wire criss crossing the inside to the secure, corner points. The hide cuff is attached with a wire clasp that still works. While the hide is very stiff, one can wear this if the wrist is small enough.
