An Early Ohkay Owingeh Red Ware Bowl

Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan Pueblo)

Last quarter 19th century | Item 2170

This smaller Ohkay Owingeh bowl shows good use inside and out. The outside patina has a wonderful golden, rich hue to it. The inside shows years of use, likely a spoon knocking up against the inside. The color gradations on the inside are beautiful. The shape with the bulging mid body and the out flare at the top rim suggests an early date. The red rim has a slight scalloped edging to it. There are several black fire clouds on the underbody, which has been stone polished as a golden, tan color.
