Banded Navajo Blanket with Zig Zaging, Circa 1890

Navajo

Circa 1890 | Wool | Item 2156

The wool in the blanket is beautiful, lustrous and soft. There are five bands with zig zag patterns alternating between dark brown, white and carded gray. While it looks like a wedge weave, this is not a wedge weave as there are no pulled warps. Three of the bands alternate with brown and white, and two of the bands alternate with brown and gray. This blanket is sturdy and could be used as a throw on the sofa and as a blanket to wrap oneself in while reading a book on a cold winter night…

Condition Very good with minor restoration. Some very light, yellow staining. The tassels are newer additions. Colors are equal on each side.
