Apache Beaded Bag Circa 1850

Item #: 239
Origin: Apache?

Date: Circa 1850
Media: Buffalo hide, black and white beads
Dimensions: 6.75 x 5.15″
Description: This early bag is beaded on both sides with some variation side to side.  This bag has 21 small holes circulating the top likely for a tie string used to close the bag. This well oiled bag has great age and patina.  Gaylord Torrence looked at this bag carefully and thought it could be as early as the 1840s.  It is also suggested that this bag was likely cut down some time ago from a tobacco sized bag.  Evidence is present for what was a continuous leather fringe at the bottom.
