Colt Second Contract 1st Model (Fluck) Dragoon with Brass Tacked Lone Star Holster

American made

Circa 1850 | Item 2257

This is a rare and never seen ensemble of an early Dragoon and commercial hide holster heavily brass tacked. The heavy tacking on the holster might suggest a Southern tribe, such as Comanche. However, with the Texas Star set with tacks on the holster, it is more than likely those of a frontier man’s accoutrements.

Approximately 30 1st Model Dragoons were supplied by Colt to the U.S. Government as replacements for Colt Walkers that blew up during their service in Mexico.  These martially Marked Dragoons occur in the 2,200 to 2,700 serial number range and serial #2716 is illustrated on page 87 of the Book of Colt Firearms by Sutherland & Wilson and this is the 3rd highest number fluck known.

This Fluck revolver remains in far better than average condition with faint traces of original finish mixed with a natural patina and at least 50% of the original cylinder scene.   A small “p” proof is visible on the backstrap, partial on the left center of the barrel lug, point of the trigger guard bow, cylinder, interior of wedge, partial on bottom of hammer on the left side.  The frame, barrel cylinder, backstrap and trigger guard are all numbered 2768.  The wedge and arbor are not numbered but are correct to this Fluck Revolver.  No numbers are visible on the interior of the grips or the loading lever but are original to this revolver.

The metal surfaces are fairly smooth and fairly well defined with some minor pitting at the firing areas and normal wear from use.  The grips are good with minor imperfection and matching age along with expected wear from use.
