Comanche/Kiowa Child’s Bow with 3 Arrows, Circa 1880

Wood, Steel, Feathers, Sinew | Item 2491

This is a rare and beautiful example of a Comanche or Kiowa child’s bow with three arrows. The wood is Osage Orange, or Bodark, and has the great color and patina of warm honey. The feathers on the arrows are turkey. Use is evident in the darker color towards the center where the hands would have been placed. On the close ups, one can see a texture added to both sides at the center hand grip, perhaps from a file. The recurvature is very pleasing in form. The original sinew bow string is in tact and can be strung to the opposite end. It’s best to keep it unstrung so that the stress is off of this old wood. The surface of the wood is very nice, aged and smooth.

Dimensions 36 1/2" long, arrows 24 3/4" long
Condition Very good. The sinew bow string is unattached at one end on purpose
