Cree Painted Dance Rattle

This rattle has a wood stick wrapped with commercial hide that comes to an end with a circle of rawhide painted on both sides. A teepee is painted sitting on the level ground on both sides. On one side, the teepee has, on each side, a round circle – maybe a cloud? The paint used is a translucent yellow/siena color. The rattle has small stones inside to make a rattle sound when shaken.
