Crow Small Teepee /Tipi Beaded Bag circa 1870
Crow
Circa 1870 | Hide, Glass Beads, Sinew | Item 2411
This is a beautiful Crow teepee beaded bag. The simple, horizontal banding makes for a very aesthetically pleasing and sublime look. There are 7 horizontal, beaded bands consisting of deep blue, light blue, green, red with white hearts and white. The closing part of the lid is decorated with the same beads except no light blue and, instead, greasy yellow is used, but a different design pattern including diagonal lines. Both edges are lined with a thin amount of early red stroud, likely dyed with cochineal. White pony beads line this red stroud. The brain tanned hide is thick and likely elk. There is a hide tassel dropping from each corner wrapped in dark blue and greasy yellow beads. Everything is sinew sewn. There is very minor bead loss.
