Double Sided Stone Mortar, Columbia River, WA.

Columbia River, Washington State

Prehistoric | Basalt | Item 1575

This is a wonderful example of an early double sided mortar from the Columbia River in Washington State. There are two bowls, one at each end. The outside is designed with deep cuts into the basalt to create borders (horizontal) and vertical bands for a striping pattern. The stone shows much wear, including the chips that great age to them. None of the wear is from modern times.
