Early American Box, Possibly Texan Made

American, Canyon Texas

Early 19th Century | Pine, Wrought Iron | Item 2117

This is a fancy chest or small trunk with original blue paint still on it. The top is domed wood, as one piece that has been steamed to bend to its domed shape. The wrought iron hardware is beautiful and has nice detailing. The paint work on it is characteristic of German chests and trunks. The Germans settled early on in Texas and this chest came from an old time family in Canyon, Texas on the panhandle. It’s possible this could be a Texan made, pine trunk. The date is estimated to be early 19th century.
