Early Chimayo or Late Rio Grande Blanket Dazzler

Hispanic, Northern New Mexico

1900 - 1930 | Item 2330

This early Chimayo or late Rio Grande blanket is done in the Saltillo style, without any central diamond. The entire blanket is woven of Germantown, 4 ply yarns and is in two segments with a seam down the center. The body is done in a vertical zig zag design of contrasting colors. The border is like a blown up scale of the classic Saltillo blankets, with white trapezoids bordered by deep brown and light blue. The overall effect is impressive and the color palete satisfying. No restoration, minor areas of gentle fading. The colors are equal on each side.
