Early Frontier Knife From the Borderlands

Description: This is a rare and early frontier knife much like the belduque, the famous knife favored by the Southern Plains Indians for everyday use.  This knife has a steel blade sandwiched between two pieces of horn for the handle.  There are no marks or evidence of who made it.  It was likely hand wrought by a blacksmith in Mexico and it made its way north into the hands of the natives.

Provenance:  From a private Albuquerque, NM collection that was purchased from a Navajo on the reservation in the 1960s.
