Early Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan) Bowl, 19th Century

Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan) Pueblo

Last quarter 19th century | Clay | Item 2085

This early bowl has an amazing patina to it, like a deep glow, almost coppery in color. The bowl is classic San Juan with two tones. The upper is deep glossy copper-brown. The lower half is a lighter brown or tan color, stone polished with several blackened fire clouds scattered about. The base has an indent, so this may have been meant to carry on the head along with its contents.
