Frontier Hunting Bag with Powder Horn & Woven Game Pouch, 19th C.

American West

Commercial Hide, Linen, Horn | Item 1976

This hunting bag was made with early commercial hide. I would date this to the second half of the 19th century. It has one opening within the hide and then a second bag opening for holding game where the crochet netting is. The netting appears to have been woven with linen. There is a shoulder strap attached and as well a powder horn with square nails and a wood cap. There is contents inside the bag: a bullet mold, a small tin for Hick’s Percussion caps, and fire starter material. The bag is clean and has no bad smells. This is a wonderful piece of Western history, all in one bag.
