Historic Acoma 4 Bird Jar

Item: 553

Date: 1890 – 1900
Media: Clay
Dimensions: 11.75″ tall, 12″ diameter

Description: This beautiful water jar has 4 birds alternating in form and color circulating the shoulder.  The bird’s energy is almost uncontainable and has the sense that they will fly right off the jar.  In contrast, the geometric designs below the shoulder anchor the piece firmly to the ground.  These internal squares themselves an interesting and complex array of stairs, leaves, tails, eyes, etc.  The patina is warm and rich.  The condition is excellent with no restoration, no breaks, no cracks and no chips.
