Navajo weaver Shirley John is famous for this type of pictorial scene rug. Here we have a Navajo dance going on, with spectators all around sitting on the ground. In the foreground are sheep (with one black sheep). Amongst the scene is are hogans, the lead singer sitting on a throne type of chair, wagons, a Navajo rug on the ground, trailers, etc. The sky is active as well with a hot air ballon, an airplane with two occupants seen inside, two birds and many cloud formations. The colors are equal on each side and the original tag is still attached to the weaving, saying “Shirley John, Many Farms, AZ, Number 9362, Price $7,500.”
