Large Ohkay Owingeh Bowl with Red Upper Body

Ohkay Owingeh or San Juan Pueblo

Circa 1890 | Clay | Item 2136

This is a handsome and large Ohkay Owingerh (San Juan Pueblo) bowl. It has an upper red slipped body and a lower cream slipped body, all stone polished. This one has a beautiful array of small fire clouds with all but one found on the cream underbody – so they really stand out. The condition is excellent with no restoration and no cracks. There are some small chips along the rim. The red on the upper body has a deep and warm quality that is characteristic of these bowls done in the 19th century.
