Large Pueblo (Cochiti?), Painted Wood and Hide Drum
Pueblo, Cochiti?
Circa 1940 | Cottonwood, Hide, Paint | Item 2693
This is an impressive Pueblo, possibly Cochiti, painted drum. It comes with a more contemporary drum beater. The drum makes a wonderfully rich, deep, sound. The drum is carved out of a cottonwood trunk with hide applied to each end. The hides are kept in place with hide strips, all visible on the surface. The wood surface is painted a soft rose color with a band of white at the top and bottom. The hide surfaces are both painted black. The hide strips are painted same same rose color. The hide is pulled down over the wood surface, making for a great color contrast between the black, white and rose.
