Loop Necklace of Russian Faceted Beads and 2 Crosses

Northwest Coast

Parts are 19th Century, assembled first half 20th century | Glass, German Silver | Item 1724

This necklace is a beautiful use of luminescent, deep cobalt glass beads.  This double loop necklace has two rows of Russian, faceted, glass beads.  The top layer is darker in color and smaller and the bottom layer is lighter in color and larger.   The smaller row of glass beads range from 3/8″ to 1/4″ long.  The larger beads from 5/16″ to 1/2″.  There is a smaller German silver cross on the top layer that is close in shape to a Maltese cross.  One side is rocker engraved along the edges and then a X in the middle.  The lower loop has a larger cross decorated on each side.  One side is more detailed with rocker engraving and then incised lines outlining the shape and as well creating Xs along the interior parts of the cross’s arms. The necklace is linked together with hide strips.
