Navajo Basket, 19th Century

Navajo

Late 19th Century | Willow, Sumac | Item 2360

This is an old Navajo basket of rare design form. A migrating, stepped form colored a soft rust covers the body of the basket. There is a break in the form. While this is related to the wedding basket, it is not one but is rather a rarely seen type. This basket is in excellent condition. There is an interesting article titled The Art Of Making Dine Baskets online at the Natural History Museum of Utah.
