Navajo Double Woven Double Saddle Blanket

Navajo

Circa 1900 | Wool | Item 2134

This is a wonderful saddle blanket woven double, so the colors reverse from front to back. This makes it thicker and more sturdy. The wool is likely churro, very smooth with parallel fibers. The dark brown, gray and white yarns alternate in a twill like pattern for the body, that I don’t believe is twill. There are three bands, center and the ends, with red on the outside and a mixture of orange and light tan on the inside. The quality of the weave is excellent and the art of this piece is as good as it gets.
