Navajo or Pueblo Bracelet with 3 Stones and Snakes
Navajo or Pueblo
Silver, Turquoise | Item 2523
This is a beautiful and unusual bracelet with three turquoise stones and two snakes. The attribution includes a possible Pueblo maker due to the use of snakes. The three stones are oval in shape, all with a similar soft blue-green hue and set in a simple bezel. The surface of the stones are rounded, like a cabochon and very smoothed over, like a moonstone. Repousse is used for the eight punched circles set in pairs between each stone and at the ends. Fine punch work designs are between and around the three stones.
One snake adorns each side of the bracelet beginning with a rattle tail and ending with the snake mouth wide open with a strong eye. Just past the snake head and at the very end of the bracelet is a single added mini concho. In addition, there are coupled hove marks stamped all along the snake path, wondering who is following who? This is a charming, attractive and unusual bracelet dating to around the late 1930s to early 1940s. The silver is likely coin silver. There is an old repair on the inside center. There is no sign on the front that it was ever broken. The repair was likely added when interior weakness was seen.
