Navajo Pictorial Rug with Animals, Circa 1950

Navajo

Circa 1950 | Wool | Item 2178

This joyous Navajo pictorial weaving has two burros (look at their long ears!), two birds, one cat and one rabbit. The top horse has a saddle blanket, so it’s a weaving within a weaving! The border is made up of the whirling four directions done in black and white. The background is a soft, dyed tan color with variations all the way to a more yellow color in very limited areas. The weaving is the same on both sides with no A/B side.
