Description: This Navajo rug has it all! So many aspects of this are rare, and the combination of these elements makes this an exceptional find. Single figure yei weavings are rare and tend to be early. This figure is beautiful, having a strong Japanese look with the distinguished hat and bobbed hair. Notice that the legs are done with an indigo blue yarn, a holdover from weavings of 1880s. The four corner elements – a central black diamond surrounded by four spirals and two tails, is very characteristic of Navajo Bisti weaving. The two framing elements at the ends of the central, large, stepped diamond, are finely executed and make for a perfect finishing touch. The simple, surrounding border is early with its understated quality compared to the center of the rug. The weave is tight, and the abrash found in the brown center is striking.
Condition: Condition is excellent with some restoration at one end.
