Navajo Transitional Blanket with Geometric Designs

Navajo

1890 | Wool | Item 2292

This Navajo transitional blanket is zoned into three sections. The upper and lower sections are the same and show a roaming, thick line that changes in color from dark brown to red and back again. This roaming line is highly angular moving in and out to create a well balanced space with movement. The central section is the same meandering, angular line but this time is all dark brown and repeats a square shape like dente. This central section is separated by the upper and lower parts with a very thick bar alternating on the diagonal with red and brown, looking like a barber pole on its side. The whole effect is a well balance weaving showing equal amounts of design and void, allowing the eye to roam all over without burden.
