Navajo Transitional Blanket with Spider Woman Crosses
Item: 920
Origin: Navajo
Date: Circa 1900
Media: Wool
Dimensions: 79″ x 51″
Description: A wonderful and early Navajo weaving with all natural colors. Two, large diamonds enclose two spider woman crosses, with two more crosses outside the diamonds. Four smaller spider woman “sticks” are placed in each corner. I find it particularly beautiful the subtle work within the brown border of the two large diamonds. Every so often within this border is a hiccup, or a small stepped serration that gives the overall sense of more wavy movement within this dark containing border. These early rugs of this larger size are a rare find.
Restoration: This blanket/rug is in excellent condition. The two sides are equal in color. There are signs of a few small areas that may have received some restoration.
