Northwest Coast Spool Maul

Northwest Coast to Fraser River Valley

Proto-historic to prehistoric | Item 391

This is an exceptional Northwest Coast maul, found by a local family while farming in the Cascades of Washington state. It is a deep green hardstone. The top portion has a strong bevel to its edge. The bottom, larger circle portion also has a bevel, but to a lesser degree. The transition slopes from each end going inward are beautiful and highly refined. The surface is highly polished (naturally) and smooth to the touch, with nicks and scratches from long term wear and use. This tool makes a wonderful ponder, the the top beveled circle “stop” keeping the tool in one’s hand through all the swings.
