Plains Elk’s Teeth Necklace

Plains Indian

Circa 1900 (beads likely much older) | Elk's Teeth, Glass Beads, Hide, Brass | Item 1745

This necklace is a wonderful assemblage of elk’s teeth and well worn glass beads.  Most of the beads are Russian blue faceted beads.  The alternating quality of the red with the blue beads is particularly attractive.  The beads show great wear to them.  There are a total of 15 elk’s teeth with the smallest 5/8″ long and the largest 1″ long.   There are only three white beads, 59 Russian faceted beads, and 12 red beads.   The whole system is strung on a hide strip and ends with an early brass button and loop as the attachment.
