Plains Indian Bonnet with Quill Work

Item #: 864
Origin: Sioux
Date: Early 20th C.
Media: Cotton calico, quills
Dimensions: 12″ tall, 11.5″ front to back

Description:   This rare Sioux quilled bonnet has the visor made predominately of red quill work with yellow and green accents, and pink, black and white striped lining. Cap is made of mauve flowered cotton calico and the ties are the same material. The bonnet shows good age with some fading of the fabric, wear to the quill work and wear on the edges.  The stitch is machine made, likely an earlier non-electric mechanical sewing machine.  This bonnet shows well on a stand.  The stand, as shown in the photos, is not included with the purchase.
