Plains Indian hide drum, 20″ Diameter

Plain Indian

Late 19th to early 20th century | Hide | Item 1977

This Plains Indian drum has wonderful patina to it. The hide is stretched over steam bent wood and tied with hide strips. There is no paint on the outsie. The inside of the hide has the letters “R”, “Co” in black with a green thick line painted across it. It’s interesting to note that lead was used on the back side to seal some of the hide connections. These can be seen in the photos. The drum is about 2 1/2″ wide. It still has a good sound.
