Pueblo or Spanish Colonial Hide Box

Item: 902

Origin: Pueblo or Spanish Colonial
Date: 19th century

Media: Hide, likely buffalo

Dimensions: 12.5″ x 7.5″ x 7″ tall

Description: This box shows a great organic quality in how it has adjusted to all the use over the years.  The entire box is a heavy hide, except for the four interior corners where wood supports are placed.  There is a hide strap attached to the front and back to attach the box to a cart or side of a horse.   The patina, as well as the roving shape of the surface, makes this a highly enigmatic object.  The energy in it feels as if it’s a living thing.  The lack of embellishment suggests that this may be Pueblo.

Restoration: Condition is as shown, overall very good with no restoration
