Pueblo Spiny Oyster Shell Necklace with Turquoise and Coral

Pueblo, likely Zuni

First half 20th C. | Spiny Oyster, Turquoise, Coral | Item 2413

This is a beautiful necklace with good age to it. The spiny oyster shell appears very old, with the turquoise mosaic overlay a later addition. The turquoise has been glued to the shell with pinon pitch, a classic old world treatment. An early, metal ring links the shell to the necklace. The necklace is made of graduating discs of turquoise along with coral from largest at the shell to smallest at the joinery.
