Santo Domingo Depression Era Necklace with Turquoise

Santo Domingo Pueblo

Plastic, Turquoise | Item 2563

I’ve seen a number of these over the years, and this has to be one of the better examples of Santo Domingo Depression Era craftsmanship. The thunderbird is complex and beautifully done with a face showing via the red parts. The six circles spaced around the necklace hark back to the circle at the top of the Thunderbird. These six pieces are beautifully executed. There is evidence of much wear, as the colors have mellowed and there is a smoothness that comes about with use. It is on the original string and has the original clasp at each end.
