Small Floral Olla or Water Jar

Tesuque

Circa 1910 | Clay | Item 1854

Tesuque is my call for the Pueblo that made this jar, although I have also considered San Ildefonso and Santo Domingo. Most telling for me is the thin, bold, red band at the top of the underbody and at the bottom of the design. In addition, the under body is stone polished with a tan finish. And finally, the inside of the rim is decorated with arcs circulating the top. The body of the jar has 7 flowers at the midpoint, all coming off of a stem that is attached to the bordering line at the bottom. The neck designs are linked rectangles with two parts to them, often seen on both Santo Domingo and Laguna pottery.

Dimensions 6 1/2" tall, 6 12/2" diameter
Condition Very good with minor chipping along the rim.
Provenance A private collection in Arizons
Tesuque small water jar circa 1910 with flowers.
