Spanish Colonial Beaded Heart on a Necklace, 19th C. New Mexican

Spanish Colonial New Mexico

Last half of the 19th century | Glass Beads | Item 2141

This beautiful beaded heart on a necklace would have been made during the last half of the 19th century somewhere in what is now New Mexico. It would most likely be a religious piece associated with the Catholic Church at the time. The small size of the necklace portion says this was likely for a young girl. The necklace portion is a series of beaded lengths (4 strands) twisted together to make a spiral. The heart is beaded on each side and is further trimmed with beads.
