Transitional Navajo Blanket, Natural Colors

Navajo

Circa 1900 | Wool | Item 2133

This is an interesting and attractive Navajo blanket that has early rug characteristics. The carded, gray background becomes the border, a rarely seen design feature. The top and bottom have two rows of rectangles, followed going inward with a row of spirals. From here the blanket reads as a series of squares stacked into diamond shapes. The wool is soft and supple. The colors are the same on both sides, with all natural colors of wool hand spun yarns being used.
