James Compton Gallery Now Showing at La Fonda on the Plaza

The James Compton Gallery has rented a large display window at the Santa Fe La Fonda on the Plaza. This window had been represented by the last renter for 40 years! I am so proud to have the opportunity to advertise my gallery and as well to show off items that are for sale. The space is large, approximately 6′ wide, 6′-8″ tall and 4.5′ deep. It has two glass doors, one moveable to access. It’s almost a gallery within itself.

Antique Native American and Spanish Colonial Items for Sale

I’m showing a variety of items, including; historic Native American weavings, pottery, Spanish Colonial furniture and religious items, American Southwest paintings and folk art. The items are numbered with a referenced placard to explain their attribution. Any interest in an item requires a call, text (505 699-0323) or email (jamie@jamescomptongallery.com) for pricing and availability.

My standard gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11 – 5 and then open by appointment outside those times. The display case at La Fonda is open 24/7 as long as you can access the hotel lobby. The window is on your way to the elevators accessing the rooms, and is across from La Plazuela restaurant, the main lobby eating spot.

The Story of La Fonda on the PLaza

The story of La Fonda on the Plaza is rich with history. As written on the La Fonda website:

“La Fonda on the Plaza holds a coveted place in Santa Fe history, a component in a rich tapestry of hospitality that predates American independence. City records indicate that La Fonda sits on the site of the town’s first inn, established when the city was founded by Spaniards in 1607, making our property the oldest hotel corner in America.”

Stepping into La Fonda is like experiencing layers of history all in one location. The building, its art and energy fills one with awe. My display window works to show this history in the objects I represent. Here’s yet another reason to come and visit Santa Fe, New Mexico!
