Item: 679

Origin: Laguna Pueblo
Date: 19th century or earlier

Media: Stone

Dimensions: 5.75″ by 2″ by 3.25″

Description: There is no evidence by discoloration that this was used for grinding minerals for paints. The mortar and mano appear early, as there is much wear. Interesting to see how both sides were used for grinding.  The top side has one worked area, the underside has two.  The stone is likely a sandstone.

Condition:  The mortar broke in half and was mended with what appears to be concrete or something similar. I imagine that it was this break that made the owner retire this for sale outside the pueblo.

Price: 650
