A Large Gobernador Bowl

Item #: 299

Origin: Gobernador period

Date: 1620 – 1760

Media: Clay

Dimensions: 11″ tall, 17″ diameter

Provenance: From the Dwight Lanmon collection

This large bowl, not unlike a more contemporary Hopi Puke bowl,  has an amazing surface showing many fire clouds, use and wear.  The inside is of the same material, but the surface on the interior is smoother making for a more reflective surface.  As a result, the bowl seems to create its own light from the inside, even in a room that is not well lit.  The bowl has seen some use, and there is one large portion glued back on and a few other cracks.
