Description: This dramatic painting of 5 Plains Indian on horseback shows them all focused on the leaders pointing arm, in the direction of a wagon train in the far distance.   The open space of the Plains is immediately felt and is further accentuated by the darkening cloud forming above the group to suggest an impending attack.

The painting is signed and dated on the lower left.  The frame, assumed created sometime between 1950 – 1970, is titled with a plate stating Charles Craig, Santa Fe 1887 along with his date of birth and death.

Condition:  Painting has been re-backed with canvas and possibly cleaned or re-varnished with no signs of repairs or in-painting. Faint cracquelure to paint skin visible in upper region. Painting may show wear to edges from contact with frame. Not examined out of frame. Framed without glazing measuring 29 x 43 x 3 inches.
