Pueblo Buffalo Headdress

This buffalo headdress measures 32″ x 20″ x 10″ as shown on its stand. This headdress has wonderful age to it and is in prime condition with no restoration.  Considering its wear, the age is assumed to be the last quarter of the 19th century. The interior support for the head is old, thick commercial leather covered in the front with green pigment. The horns are pierced by a leather strip that has blue and white glass beads of a larger and varied shapes.  This leather strip is also covered in faint green pigment.  The back side shows a blonder shade of color to the buffalo hair.

I imagine that this headdress has seen some history, both in dance as well as ritual in the celebration of the buffalo as animal and spirit.  This item is on display at my gallery.  Please come in for a visit!  The headdress is priced at $3400.
