Social Distancing on Top of Deception Peak

What a great way to get out and about! I was guided up to the top of Deception Peak (12,343′) just outside of Santa Fe, NM by my friend Daniel Vernay.  We started out with crampons for the majority of the climb, then transferred to our snowshoes once we got high enough and the snow was deep and soft.  The last 400 vertical foot climb was in the hiking boots with no crampons, since the wind had scrapped the surface of all the snow. There was a constant 40 MPH wind once on the final ridge and I almost lost my nose and lips! The temperature was surely below 32. Here is a short, 30 second all round view from the top… I love living in New Mexico!
