19th C. New Mexican Chipped Carved Frame with Our Lady of Guadalupe Print

Item: 1104

Origin: Spanish Colonial New Mexican
Date: : Circa 1850
Media: Pine and paper
Dimensions: 19″ x 11″

Description: This is a very rare New Mexican chip carved frame with a print of our lady of Guadalupe.  At the based of the print is titled Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe.  Fine written line frames the bottom of the print and while most of it I can not read, I do see the maker Currier stated.  The red rosette carved above is continuous with the board and includes a full rosette in the center with a quarter rosette on each side.  A frame is attached (not clear how) to the pine board to contain the print.  There appears to be no nails.

Condition: Unrestored, this print is in original condition.  While it is well worn, the print is in very good condition and our lady Guadalupe is clearly visible.  There is an inventory number on the back L.L.F 507.

Provenance: These came from the collection of Lane Coulter, of Coulter Brooks in Santa Fe, NM
