An Unusual Navajo, Banded Blanket

Description: This vibrant blanket is soft and supple. The weave is coarse (the red is all hand spun single ply) but complex when looking at the dark, thin bands of multicolored yarns.  Here we find a combination of black, dark green, light green and purple and all are Germantown, plied yarns. Together these bands look like a colorful salt and pepper. Interesting to note that all the warps are single ply wool dyed red.  The top and bottom have a band of golden-brown hand spun single ply yarn.  The side weft selvages are hand spun dark red and the warp selvages are Germantown yarns of varying colors.
