Early Spanish Colonial Small Box with Key

Item: 645

Origin: Spanish Colonial, possibly Mexico or Spain
Date: : Late 18th C. to early 19th C.
Media: Wood
Dimensions: 13 x 7 x 7.5 inches”

Description:  Beautifully detailed early small lock box with key.  The box no longer locks, however. Hardware is original, with one of the hinges on the back moved over slightly at some point.  Square nails, hand wrought, can be seen. The front medallion of wrought iron is wonderfully detailed and appears original.  Four small turned legs keep the box off the ground.  This was likely used for important documents / papers, as it seems to light weight to have been used for more valuable items such as money or jewelry.
